vRouter 5600 bare-metal on HP DL Gen8/9 issue with Intel 82599 10GbE FC Ethernet

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I just trying to vRouter 5600 on HP DL Gen8/9 with Intel 10GbE(82599) FC Ethernet, I met the iommu error and cannot recognize all of 10GbE FC Ethernet adaptors, cannot find any ports at all on /etc/network/interfaces.d/.

Checking the /var/log/messages/ dataplane had iommu error and DMA remapping failed caused by 'Operation not permitted'

localhost dataplane[2676]:EAL: Requested device 0000:05:00.1 cannot be used
localhost dataplane[2676]:EAL: cannot set IOMMU type, error 1 (Operation not permitted)
localhost dataplane[2676]:EAL: 0000:0b:00.0 DMA remapping failed, error 1 (Operation not permitted)
localhost dataplane[2676]:EAL: Requested device 0000:0b:00.0 cannot be used
localhost dataplane[2676]:EAL: cannot set IOMMU type, error 1 (Operation not permitted)
localhost dataplane[2676]:EAL: 0000:0b:00.1 DMA remapping failed, error 1 (Operation not permitted)
localhost dataplane[2675]:EAL: Requested device 0000:05:00.0 cannot be used
localhost dataplane[2675]:EAL: cannot set IOMMU type, error 1 (Operation not permitted)
localhost dataplane[2675]:EAL: 0000:05:00.1 DMA remapping failed, error 1 (Operation not permitted)
localhost dataplane[2675]:EAL: Requested device 0000:05:00.1 cannot be used
localhost dataplane[2675]:EAL: cannot set IOMMU type, error 1 (Operation not permitted)
localhost dataplane[2675]:EAL: 0000:0b:00.0 DMA remapping failed, error 1 (Operation not permitted)

I now disabling VT-D then start working - I can find the 10GbE ports with 'show interface',

but it seems to be incorrect way disabling shared memory for UEFI is the correct way to solve it.

http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04781229&sp4ts.oid=5249566

but I also find the docs we should disable vt-d for intel DPDK 1.4 or lower...

https://01.org/sites/default/files/downloads/intel_dpdk_vswitch_040_gsg.pdf

Well...any ideas to solve it in the right way?

Hi @masafumi_ohta

I spoke with a TAC Representative regarding your question and this was their response:

Two important pieces of information are not available in your post:

  • NIC card model being used
  • vRouter 5600 version that you are trying to install

We are continually growing our compatibility list, but there might be a chance that yours is not listed yet.

Please check out the latest Release Notes (attached).

I hope this helps you! If we may be of further assistance via the Community, please let us know.
