I’d like to briefly talk about the upcoming ONS event taking place on April 16 - 18 in Santa Clara, CA. For those who aren’t familiar with the ONS, it is the premier event for OpenFlow and Software Defined Networking (SDN). This is the 2nd annual ONS event being held by the Open Networking Foundation (ONF). The ONF was founded in 2011 by large service providers and Web 2.0 companies. Brocade is an early member of this foundation and a proud partner sponsor at the ONS. The ONF is a non-profit organization that is focused on driving the standards development for the OpenFlow protocol and its associated SDN standards.

The ONS is a three-day event that includes one day of detailed technical tutorials, followed by two days of thought provoking presentations. There will also be many booths where OpenFlow and SDN demos will be shown, and attendee’s can not only see innovative applications of SDN using OpenFlow but will have the opportunity to interact and ask questions! The goal of this year's summit is to prepare attendees for the SDN revolution by highlighting the latest SDN developments. The summit will bring together the world's leading authorities from the networking and cloud computing industries into a high-energy and focused setting, allowing attendees to benefit from their research, deployment experience and use-case commentary.

In addition to the sponsorship, Brocade will be demonstrating two OpenFlow-enabled routers: the MLXe and the CER. The objective of the demonstration is to show that powerful network virtualization applications can be supported with appropriate OpenFlow-enabled routers. Brocade will demonstrate how a network virtualization solution capable of supporting multi-point logical networks with VLAN translation between customer sites can be realized. Network virtualization enables seamless control of network resources regardless of location. The demonstration will use an open source OpenFlow controller. Participation at ONS once again demonstrates the continued commitment and leadership of Brocade in SDN technologies.

Please return to this community forum after the event to catch up on what transpired, what topics were particularly noteworthy, and to hear about the interaction of attendees at the Brocade demo!
