As today’s news indicates, Brocade has taken another aggressive step in our software networking strategy. The addition of Riverbed’s worldwide SteelApp business into our industry-leading portfolio of data center software networking products reinforces Brocade’s vision and demonstrates our continued resolve to lead the industry as software solutions penetrate the IP networking industry.
As the #2 vendor of data center networking infrastructure (per IDC), Brocade has worldwide presence and deep experience delivering and supporting mission-critical environments. The vast majority of the Fortune 1000 including Enterprises, Clouds and Telcos run Brocade infrastructure in their networks. Building upon this strength, Brocade has aggressively embraced the technology disruption of software IP networking as virtualization, Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) have up-ended the status quo. It’s a “New IP” in the making, where software plays a central role.
Our pace of advancement has been nothing short of impressive. In 2012, Brocade entered the software market with the acquisition of Vyatta, the pioneer in virtual routing and runaway early leader in the space. Shortly afterward, our dramatically increased investment in the space shattered price/performance barriers and shocked the industry with what’s possible. In 2014, we announced the Brocade Vyatta Controller, the industry’s first commercially supported open-source SDN controller which is today freely available to download and already with production customers.
Is our pace of advancement the result of Brocade’s recent ability to attract the best and brightest technical minds in the industry, or are they coming to Brocade because of our commitment to being the industry’s change agent? The answer is “both.” Today, we take another bold step by including the SteelApp product line and team in our mission.
What does this mean for SteelApp customers? In a word, an even better experience. As a data center-focused company, Brocade is a solid and well-aligned environment in which SteelApp will flourish:
We will invest substantially more to advance the SteelApp product capabilities and solution roadmap.
Customers can extend their virtualized network migration by leveraging Brocade’s Vyatta Services Platform (including virtual router/firewall/VPN and our world-class open SDN controller).
Customers will experience our worldwide 7x24 Support and Services that keep the world’s largest data centers humming.
There will be smooth continuity with respect to the SteelApp field team.
Existing resellers and distributors are invited into Brocade’s ecosystem
In short, we won’t skip a beat and we will definitely increase the tempo.
More news will be forthcoming as the acquisition moves toward formal closure in the next few weeks. We are truly excited to be including SteelApp’s team and worldwide customer base in Brocade’s ecosystem.
