sanhealth reports "Cant Read SerialData"

Hello,

SanHealth 4.0.7c reports Cant "Read SerialData" on 3 ports.

sanswitch model Brocade 5480 (HP Blade) "SLKWRM0000HP2" In a HP blade enclosure.

Fabric OS: v7.4.1d

Both switches in this blade enclosure report the same on port 1,2 and 3.

All 3 servers work o.k.

Servers in slot 4,5 and 6 do not report this "error"

Port 2: cu Can not read Serial Data!

What could be the root case?

Re: sanhealth reports "Cant Read SerialData"

Hi Henk,

those ports marked as "cu" do not have SFP's - they are copper (Cu is the symbol for copper in the periodic table) trace on the backplane to the HBA module in the card.

Do you have blade only in slot 1,2, and 3 in these systems?

Re: sanhealth reports "Cant Read SerialData"

Martin,

Ports 1 to 16 are connected internaly to blades 1 to 16 without SFP's (Cu). Thst is correct.

We have 5 other simular blade enclosures with the same internal Brocade switches. They all have ( CU) internal connections.

Slots/ports 4,5 and 6 also contain servers. Also (CU).

Re: sanhealth reports "Cant Read SerialData"

Hi Henk,

as I suspected. Can you run "sfpshow -f" to force refreshing of the state and then provide any error message in "errshow -r" which might occurs? Further, can you provid the output from sensorshow, please.

You are running 7.4.1d so you are safe from defect 551676 (fixed in 7.4.1).

Re: sanhealth reports "Cant Read SerialData"

Hi Henk,

did this problem exists before the upgrade to 7.4.1d?

What is the value of uptime (for CPU load)?

Do you have some port with a SFP which you can run sfpshow <port> -f against?

Re: sanhealth reports "Cant Read SerialData"

Martin,

Slot 1,2 and 3 show this "error"

Also slot 4 and 5 have a server with a FC HBA installed.

All 5 servers are HP Bl460c G9 servers

1 and 4 are ESX servers. 2,3 and 5 run Linux

Fabric1 and Fabric 2 both show "Cant Read SerialData" for slot 1,2 and 3. Not for slot 4 and 5.

I'm lost. Hope you have idea's

Thanks for your help

regards

Henk

Re: sanhealth reports "Cant Read SerialData"

Hi Henk,

I will need a supportsave from the switch showing the problem and then I see what I determine. I will let me get back to you later today / tomorrow (ftp location for you).

Re: sanhealth reports "Cant Read SerialData"

[ Edited ]

Hi Henk,

from the supportsave there was not much further data in fact, looking good.  Looks like you have it

defect 551676

When running sfpshow on 5300 switch, status shows "Speed Mismatch / Incompatible SFP" for many ports.

But that is fixed in 7.4.1, 7.3.2, 7.3.1 (patch) and 8.0.0, but you are on 7.4.1d. I will continue look into this. thanks
