Sint Lucas Andreas Ziekenhuis was named a Laureate in the 2011 Computerworld Honors Program. The program, founded in 1988, recognizes organizations and individuals who have used information technology to promote and advance public welfare, benefit society and change the world for the better.
It joins more than 250 other organizations from 23 countries as Laureates in this year’s program. The field was especially competitive this year because the program received more than 1,000 nominations.
Sint Lucas Andreas Ziekenhuis is a 550-bed teaching hospital in Amsterdam-West, and one of 15 top clinical hospitals in The Netherlands. They began looking to replace their aging four-year-old network, to improve reliability and availability of providing high quality on-demand video streaming to students, digital data growth for medical imaging technologies (such as Electrocardiography (ECG), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and multisliced CT scans) for physicians, and a new Hospital Information System (HIS) for patient files for staff.
They spoke with another Brocade customer, the Amsterdam Internet Exchange, a service provider with complex network and performance requirements and they heard nothing but good things about Brocade’s ability to support a network that requires unparalleled performance and reliability. But they also wanted quality integration and support, ease of management, and robust security.
"After evaluating the alternatives, we believed that Brocade offered the best WLANsolution and the best technology for the core while still providing the management simplicity our network administrators demanded," said Arnold Oudejans, Project Manager/Architect Technische Infrastructuur. Sint Lucas deployed 2 Brocade BigIron Series switches and 8 Brocade FastIron switches in the core. Another 30 Brocade FastIron switches were installed at the edge along with Brocade wireless access points.
