slot 4 status of Brocade 48K is faulty(8)

Hello All,

This is new installation for  Brocade 48K with 8Gb blade.

FOS is 6.4.2a

After power up Brocade 48K, we find slot 4 status is faulty(8).

But we don't insert FC blade to slot 4.

B48L:admin> slotshow -m

Slot   Blade Type     ID    Model Name     Status
--------------------------------------------------
  1     UNKNOWN                            VACANT
  2     UNKNOWN                            VACANT
  3     SW BLADE     51     FC8-48         ENABLED
  4     UNKNOWN                            FAULTY (8)*
  5     CP BLADE     16     CP256          ENABLED
  6     CP BLADE     16     CP256          ENABLED
  7     UNKNOWN                            VACANT
  8     SW BLADE     51     FC8-48         ENABLED
  9     UNKNOWN                            VACANT
10     UNKNOWN                            VACANT

--------------------------------------------------------

Then apply spare part and try to recover this, PN: XBR-48000-R0102

but still can't recover this, please see as below:

slotshow -m       :

Slot   Blade Type     ID    Model Name     Status
--------------------------------------------------
  1     UNKNOWN                            VACANT
  2     UNKNOWN                            VACANT
  3     SW BLADE     51     FC8-48         ENABLED
4     UNKNOWN                            VACANT             when insert FC blade
  5     CP BLADE     16     CP256          ENABLED
  6     CP BLADE     16     CP256          ENABLED
  7     UNKNOWN                            VACANT
  8     SW BLADE     51     FC8-48         ENABLED
  9     UNKNOWN                            VACANT
10     UNKNOWN                            VACANT

When insert FC blade slot 4, status is VACANT.

When remove FC blade, status is MARGINAL.

Please help analyze and give advice? what's mean faulty(8) for blade status?

Many thanks.

Best Regards

Re: slot 4 status of Brocade 48K is faulty(8)

Hello Richard,

check with the command switchstatuspolicyshow if this setting is responsible for the margial status.

I assume that this sould be OK if you have a faulty slot.

What is the status of the control LEDs on the FC4-32 blade?

You should ask your support contractor in case of a hardware failure.

Did you push the FC4--32 blade with SFPs or without SFPs into the director.

If so remove the SFPs before you insert the card.

I don't think that this will cover your situation but you can give it a try. I have read this in one of the OEM replacement procedures some time ago.

Regards,

Andreas
