keeping identical FOS throughout the Fabric

We have Brocade Fabric with two Brocade 300 (FOS v6.1.2) and two blade switch (FOS v6.2.0_bc3 ).

We are going to replace one brocade 300 with new Brocade 5300 (FOS v6.4.0b).

Please tell me know what FOS would be good for Brocade 300. Can we upgrade brocade 300 FOS v6.1.2 to FOS v6.4.0b ??

I would also like to know what is the benifit if we keep same firmware level througout the fabric .

Do we also need to upgrade blade switch (FOS v6.2.0_bc3 ) ..???

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Short answer > the best FW would be the latest because of fixed know errors.

Some what longer > unless you don't want to because of the unknown bugs, you could be at N-1 or N-2 or something.

Better interoperability/compatibility would be your benefit. Some OEM partners made it a best practice to keep FOS at the same level.

Can we upgrade brocade 300 FOS v6.1.2 to FOS v6.4.0b ?? --> Yes you can it is supported on Brocade 300

Do we also need to upgrade blade switch (FOS v6.2.0_bc3 ) ..??? --> Yes if possible and when its supported by your bladecenter support partner.

Just for your information 6.4.1a is out.

Usually at the OEM you bought it from.

Perhaps if you register your switch(serial#) at the my support section you'll be able to download FOS versions, you'll need a support contract though.

Re: keeping identical FOS throughout the Fabric

I think you misunderstood me, its the section on my.brocade.com called "my support".

You can't miss it as its shown on the landingpage after you login.

If you go to the IBM site you can look up your partnumber and go from there.

Unless I'm mistaken this should be your part suport page

http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/Documentation/Hardware/Systems/Hardware_options_and_upgrades/BladeCenter_Switch_Module/SAN/44X1921_-_Brocade_10-Port_8_Gigabit_SAN_Switch_Module

And this is the latest release I could find regaring your part.

http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5086577&brandind=5000020

It's up to you te find out if this is A) the right part and B) applies to your environment.
