Will our SAN break if we disconnect the Ethernet cable from our Silkworm 3250s?

We have two Silkworm 3250 fiber switches in our SAN that are not on maintenance and not up to the latest firmware rev. We are planning to upgrade our SAN in the near future but can't afford to put these switches on maintenance or replace the switches at this time. The problem is the switches keep getting flagged on vulnerability scans because of the old version of Apache on the switch software.

What would happen if we disconnected the Ethernet cables to the 10/100 ports on the switches? Is this port used soley for management or do the switches need it to communicate? Could we potentially break our SAN by disconnecting them?

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

On the 3250, Ethernet port is only for management. Nothing else.

FC traffic normally continues.

If you want to check them during issues', just use a cross over cable to a laptop. And you can manage them, locally.
