What is the impact on existing LUNS with enabling zoning? Currently no zoning.

We currrently have two fabrics with no zoning.  I want to configure and enable zoning.  What is the impact on exissting LUNS?  For example will the device name change in a HPUX environment.  The switches consist of a VNX, NetApp, ESX, and HPUX.  Thank you.

@scharle-robert

LUN's itself don't have any kind of impact, however in HPUX and AIX you need manadatory to rescan the Port after zone change or in you case when a zoning is created, because due a ID change in some circumstance the LUN is not visible on switch side.

I would suggest to check on both Fabric a redundant path is work correct, and then begin to create a Zoning in Fabric_A

after zoning is created and save, make sure all path are online and all LUN's are visible, the continued a couple day later with a second Fabric.

Hi,

if you are preparing your zoning, WWNs,etc..correctly no device should recognize the zoning enable.
