Two slightly different portFlags bitmaps returned by portshow...

Hi all,

I have a Dell ML-6020 ( rebadged ADIC Scalar ) tape library with six drives direct-attached to a DCX-8510-8B

The libary works well, but on occasions one or more ports are fenced by FOS on account of excess Invalid Words.

We're monitoring this in order to learn more, but I have noticed that, of the 6 drives, two have slightly different outputs for portshow:

portFlags: 0x20b03       PRESENT ACTIVE F_PORT G_PORT LOGICAL_ONLINE LOGIN NOELP ACCEPT FLOGI

portFlags: 0x24b03       PRESENT ACTIVE F_PORT G_PORT LOGICAL_ONLINE LOGIN NOELP LED ACCEPT FLOGI

Now, I do see this bitmap on other, non-tape ports, but there's no obvious pattern.

So, can anybody explain:

  • the difference between the two reported bitmaps
  • whether it's "right" or "wrong" for LED to appear / not appear in the bitmap
  • whether this might explain the Invalid Words / Port Fencing
  • any other relevant observations.

Many thanks for any insights you are able to share
