SNMP v3 Configuration on SAN switches, trap reciever host error

SNMP v3 Configuration on SAN switches is completed on the SAN switch, as per the documents,

we are unable to get the valid trap at the trap receipt host ( netcool /Ominbus ) with and messges like :

Encrypted : Not Set

Authenticated : Not Set

msgAuthoritativeEngineID : <Missing >

Need help to identify how to deal with these mesasges, any configuration to be set with snmp V3, etc

let me know if any more information is required .

TIA.

Re: SNMP v3 Configuration on SAN switches, trap reciever host error

Hi,

please paste the output of "snmpconfig --show snmpv3" so that we can figure out what the current snmpv3 config is.

Re: SNMP v3 Configuration on SAN switches, trap reciever host error

Hi,

try to configure it without SNMP Informs, to see if it goes better that way.

Re: SNMP v3 Configuration on SAN switches, trap reciever host error

i had a lot of difficulty getting our monitoring to recieve traps from brocade switches  but we have it working now.

get wwn of switch

Switch ID   Worldwide Name           Enet IP Addr    FC IP Addr      Name
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
  128: fffc80 10:00:00:05:33:0b:1f:00  9.71.41.155     0.0.0.0        >"cirrus-01_default_128"

define user in monitoring tool

createUser -e 0x80000634b210000005330b1f00 admin SHA <sha_pw> AES <aes_pw>

test with snmptraps --send command

I'm also having issues getting traps working using mttrapd, we must have the engine ID for authentication, where is this found on a 6520 if you use the wwn where did the prefix come from in your create user statement, or is that just how you have configured it ? any help much appreciated

Re: SNMP v3 Configuration on SAN switches, trap reciever host error

From trap collector, run:
snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u [SNMPv3UserID] -x [DES|AES] -X [passphrase] -a [MD5|SHA] -A [passphrase] [switchIP] snmpEngineID.0
