Problem with merging switches in a single fabric

Hello.

My company has 2 switches Brocade OEM (IBM 16B-2005 and 32B-2005) with Fabric OS 5.1.0b

We want to merge those switches in one fabric without using ISL trunking capability.

I run Merge Check Wizzard in Fabric Manager and it shows no errors.

The problem is that when I connect one port in one switch with one port in the other switch, the state of the port in one switch becomes "segmented" and the reason is "No fabric license".

The License tab in Web Admin Tool on both switches shows a licence for fabric.

Is there any other licenses we must purchase, or is it something that we did not do well?

Re: Problem with merging switches in a single fabric

cristiani,

heve you set of both switch the correct PID (1 is correct ) and different Domain ID ? example: the 32B have ID 1 and the 16B have ID 2.

Trunking License is not requiered to connect the both switch.

Re: Problem with merging switches in a single fabric

Setting different domain IDs was the first thing to do. Merge Check Wizzard confirmed to me that there are no problems with software configuration

Re: Problem with merging switches in a single fabric

Please capture trough the CLI with the command "fabricshow" and "switchshow" the output from both switch and post here

Re: Problem with merging switches in a single fabric

cristian,

is very suspect, but this is not a Fabric License Problem. I note follow, the 16B have a NPIV License installed, is here probable this port NPIV enable set ?

execute "portcfgdefault" of both port/switch disconnect the ISL cable and reconfig this both port now.

Use please a different Port Number of both switch, after the Port's are configured connect the both switch.

Re: Problem with merging switches in a single fabric

So I removed the cable between switches, run portcfgdefault on port 11/switch B16 and switch port12/B32 and the problem is still there.

I removed NPIV licence on switch B32 (only that one had that kind of licence) and the error is the same.

Maybe there is another procedure to follow for fabric merging. Do you have a link for such document?

I found somewhere that the switch that I'm adding to one fabric must not have any zone configurations. Connecting the 2 switches toghether, which fabric will be the "master" so to speak?

Re: Problem with merging switches in a single fabric

Cristian,

this is another story.

--->>> I found somewhere that the switch that I'm adding to one fabric must not have any zone configurations.

Yes, and this is correct. Zoning and Alias will be Merging automatically to the other switch. If you have in the new switch this configured , disconnect first the switch and delete the config.

But here remain the segmented Problem, probable is this solved after you delete the config.

Fabric merging is a simple of the World, i don't know any Link, but will see i have some DOC and upload here.
