Port Buffer Exhausted

Hi !!

By default Reserved buffer per F port = 8. I observed Buffer usage=8 on all the F-Ports connected to storage and VIO servers.

We are facing intermittent problems on hosts loosing connection to storage.

Any suggestion on whether  changing the f-port buffers would help . Is this advisable ?  can it be performed online ?

Thanks

Re: Port Buffer Exhausted

Hi,

I don't think the problem you're seeing is because the buffers are used.

I only see 8 used.

But, you can check for statistic tim_txcrd_z (seen in CLI command portstatsshow) for when the BB buffers of a port are depleted. Check for other errors on the ports and remember to check where errors are increasing, it may be that the errors in a counter are high, but that they are from a long time ago.

portstatsclear is the command to clear the stats on a port.

portcfgfportbuffers is the command to set more buffers on an F_Port

Re: Port Buffer Exhausted

Hi !!

Thanks for your reply. tim_txcrd_z value increased from 10508090 to 10515200 in few minutes.

This value is steadily increasing . No other errors observed on the port.

Rate of increase of tim_txcrd_z is high only on the host portside. The host is an IBM vio with multple lpars

Thanks
