No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

Hello all,

I am having problems with a recently installed Brocade 300 switch, zones were configured and everything was working fine and dandy, but yesterday I found that the ports that were working OK are now showing a No_Sync state, and show up as U_Port on the switch web GUI

I have rebooted the switch, my devices and tried with different fiber cables, but nothing worked and I have ran out of ideas.

Can you help me figure this out?

Re: No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

Whats connected to those ports?? Do you have old switchshow report??

Attach the o/p from errdump -r and errshow -r

Will try and see if I can find something.

Here's the only switchshow that I have from before the errors:

At the moment the switchshow was collected a Crossroads Storage Router (FC converter for an old SCSI 3590 tape drive) was the only connected device, later I added two servers, one with an Emulex 2 Gbps HBA and one with a QLogic 2 Gbps HBA, and one 3592 tape autoloader, all of these devices logged into the fabric correctly, and were zoned with no problems.

Here's the output of errdump from March 8th to March 11th, on March 8th everything was working ok, and at some point in March 9 or 10 something went wrong, you will see some reboots and switch disables / enables that were our first attempts at solving things.

Re: No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

Hmmmm quite spooky must say Looks like too many hardware faults has caused a policy violation and disabled the switch.

2 more commands to run - log the switch console o/p in a text file.

switchStatusShow

and if this is indeed a hardware problem then you could run systemVerification and see if the tests go through.

First run

systemverification -short

If this provides you the error then we can proceed directly else run the full diagnostics.

systemverification

When you run these more errors will be generated in errdump -r - would be nice to see it again.

Re: No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

SwitchStatusShow reports the overall status of the switch as HEALTHY/OK which is really puzzling...

Here's the output of SystemVerification:

Re: No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

All looks good. The only thing I can suggest here is

>> Remove the module from port 0

>> Do a reboot of the switch

Re: No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

No luck so far, I've collected a SupportShow and sent it to support, I don't know what else to do

Thanks for your help Biju, if you think of anything else I can try let me know.

Best regards,

Re: No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

Removing the module and a switch reboot is the only thing I can think of. An Insync port theoretically means problems with end to end connection between switch port and target/initiator.

It would be good if you can post the results from brocade's analysis of the logs.

Re: No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

a complete analysis is required. change the port.change the SFP, change the cable, and from HBA side if it is AIX OS , then you have to do an rmdev and cfgmgr . but if it is a windows host, then HBA HW diagnostic is required. Also switch port disable/enable. I think you must have done all these.

Re: No_Sync ports on Brocade 300

Update:

Tech support found nothing wrong with the supportshow I sent them, which keeps making this stranger and stranger, they have suggested that I upgrade to FOS 6.3.0 which I will do later today.

I'll let you guys know if the upgrade solves this issue.

Best regards,

Rodrigo
