Many QOS Warning Messages Are Reported

Hello

QoS related warning messages were found on two SAN switches (DS-4100B), running FOS v6.3.0b.

Switch-1

2010/05/13-16:49:32, , 5761, FID 128, WARNING, sw41_m, Port (ID: 11) QOS is disabled
2010/05/18-09:36:37, , 5793, FID 128, WARNING, sw41_m, Port (ID: 21) QOS is disabled
2010/05/19-11:16:38, , 5812, FID 128, WARNING, sw41_m, Port (ID: 21) QOS is disabled
2010/05/19-11:38:52, , 5818, FID 128, WARNING, sw41_m, Port (ID: 21) QOS is disabled
2010/05/19-16:33:31, , 5835, FID 128, WARNING, sw41_m, Port (ID: 21) QOS is disabled
2010/05/19-18:21:24, , 5846, FID 128, WARNING, sw41_m, Port (ID: 21) QOS is disabled

After going through the system diagnostic error message manual for v6.3.0b found the explantion as Port QOS is disabled because the port currently has Best Effort Setting that requires QOS to be disabled on a 4G or 8G long distance platform.Please note the ports in question are all ' F ' ports and not 'E' Ports.

Please advise as to why these warnings/messages are triggered.

Hi Chetan,

If these messages have begun just after the upgrade to 6.3.x then I would suggest manually enabling QOS on them. Check if that stops the error message from being generated.

Hello,

in past, when customers were not using QoS feature, a recommendation was to turn it off

If i am right, till FOS6.2.1 Brocade enabled QoS per default, but after Brocade noticed some site effects if QoS was enabled per default

they turned it off per default with 6.2.1a  (search in release notes for word QoS)

So comming back to these QoS messages: If these messages only pop up, if you reboot a server or you really know you reseated a cable, than these messages are related to , that Brocade turned off QoS (check status of   portcfgshow outpu)

try to disable QoS again, even its already disabled in portcfgshow:   portcfgqos --disable PORT

if you get these messages without rebooting server or maintenance on cabling, than this is pointing to instable link, because as far i have seen these messages in past they only pop up if device logs out and logs back into switch

you can enable the QOS, or upgarde the FO S

if anything is not possible, just ignore it. It will not do any harm
