I cannot delete a vf fid with the lscfg --delete FID

GOOD DAY

i AM HAVING SOME TROUBLE TO  DELETE A VF with a FID , I am using the command as follows

lscfg --delete FID.

When I do a switchshow I get the switchdetails with the message of "there is no ports " etc

According to me if there is no ports configured on the switch I would have no problem in deleteing the FID , but when I execute the command it responds in saying that all ports need to be removed from switch.

Do anyone have a answer for me with my problem

M

Re: I cannot delete a vf fid with the lscfg --delete FID

1) What FID you are trying to delete ?

2) Do you have any output of lscfg --show ?

3) If you are trying to delete the default switch you cannot ,but you can change it.

Re: I cannot delete a vf fid with the lscfg --delete FID

To put it in perspective .The following is the output from the switch

SWITCH_TO_DELETE:FID50:> switchshow
switchName:     SWITCH_TO_DELETE
switchType:     62.3
switchState:    Online
switchMode:     Native
switchRole:     Principal
switchDomain:   239
switchId:       fffcef
switchWwn:      10:00:00:05:1e:ab:35:02
zoning:         OFF
switchBeacon:   OFF
FC Router:      OFF
Allow XISL Use: OFF
LS Attributes:

Index Slot Port Address Media  Speed        State    Proto
============================================================
================================
No ports found in the system!!!

This below is the output from the command

ENGC_DCX:FID128:> lscfg --delete 50

lscfg:  Unable to delete switch with ports.  Please remove ports before attempting to delete switch.

        FID:     50

If I do a lscfg --show

it all show that there is no ports associated with the switch with FID50

Re: I cannot delete a vf fid with the lscfg --delete FID

I did try to replicate and I was able to do it successful.

1) Is it a production switch ?

2) Did you try by changing the fid from 50 to some number and then try to delete it ? (Just to give a shot)

3) Sorry to ask you... If you still see the issue can you try reboot the switch if it's not in production ? and then delete the fid ?

Re: I cannot delete a vf fid with the lscfg --delete FID

Hi Lee

Thanks for your promt replies

1) yes the chadssis is in production on FID 30, I want to disable the vf and have it as a physical switch again.

I can change the FID ,,, no problem , I have at some point moved all the ports to FID 128 and deleted FID 30 , with no issues .

when trying to delete FID 50 It snagged me with the port issue.

I have rebooted the switch in totallity as well with downtime I received to see if it would not release the ghost ports , but that did not happen.

I have deleted FID and LS's in another environment a few times without any issues .

I am currently dumbstruck !!!
