Re: How to turn off SNMP?

Hi,

I am not sure if this will work on FOS v6.3.1A, but i guess you can give it a try,

snmpConfig --show snmpv1 (will show you the current settings)

BASFCS-VFL-A01:FID101:user> snmpConfig --show snmpv1

SNMPv1 community and trap recipient configuration:
  Community 1: Secret C0de (rw)
    No trap recipient configured yet
  Community 2: OrigEquipMfr (rw)
    No trap recipient configured yet
  Community 3: private (rw)
    No trap recipient configured yet
  Community 4: public (ro)
    No trap recipient configured yet
  Community 5: common (ro)
    No trap recipient configured yet
  Community 6: FibreChannel (ro)
    No trap recipient configured yet
SNMPv1:Enabled

snmpConfig --enable snmpv1 (will Enable SNMP)

BASFCS-VFL-A01:FID101:user> snmpConfig --enable snmpv1
Committing configuration.....done.

snmpConfig --enable snmpv1 (will Disable SNMP)

BASFCS-VFL-A01:FID101:user> snmpConfig --disable snmpv1
Committing configuration.....done.

Hope this helps

Re: How to turn off SNMP?

Do would like to disable sending SNMP traps or logging snmp events in the error file or would you like to to make sure that no host can run SNMP queries on the switch?

In the last case you have to use ipfilter.

Have a look in the command reference manual

snmptraps is one command.

and look for SNMPconfig command as well

The  mibcapability option is also important.

I hope this helps,

Andreas

root> snmpConfig --disable snmpv1

Options are invalid

Not working.

Re: How to turn off SNMP?

I'm not entirely sure this is possible, without actually breaking some initscript

So instead of figuring out how to disable SNMP, why don't you just block all incomming traffinf on UDP 161?

The CLI is ipfilter (help ipfilter for more info) and You can use Webtools as well to create an filter.

Just on word of caution, don't lock yourself of of your own switch.

Make sure you have tested a serial connection succesfully before attempting this, you're not the first to discover you can't manage your switch anymore.
