Re: How to disable community strings(public/private) on brocade fibre channel switch?

So I have a two part answer (and half of that is a partial answer that will require more research I'm afraid).

From a BNA perspective, you can reference the SAN Discovery Overview section, specifically the "Configuring SNMP Credentials" section.

http://www.brocade.com/downloads/documents/html_product_manuals/NA_SAN_1200/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=Ch_Discovery.06.2.html

Now from a pure FOS FC switch perspective, I 'believe' you can use the 'snmpconfig' command with the argument 'accesscontrol'.  I say believe because I would need to test this, but no longer have access to a test lab, so in the mean time I'll run this by engineering to get this confirmed.  you can review in the FOS MIB Reference Guide here:

http://www.brocade.com/downloads/documents/html_product_manuals/FOS_MIBREF_710/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=1_Intro.03.07.html

If anyone else can confirm in the mean time that would be great otherwise more to follow from me once confirmed.

Re: How to disable community strings(public/private) on brocade fibre channel switch?

Hi,

Better than using the accesscontrol option, I would use snmpconfig --set snmpv1

You cannot disable a particular community, such as public or private,  but you can modify them, so that these two communities disappear from the configuraiton.

Example:

ED48K_132:root> snmpconfig --set snmpv1

SNMP community and trap recipient configuration:

Community (rw):

Trap Recipient's IP address :

Community (rw):

Trap Recipient's IP address :

Community (rw): 3ng1n33r1ng

Trap Recipient's IP address :

Community (ro): 0p3r4t0r

Trap Recipient's IP address :

Community (ro):

Trap Recipient's IP address :

Community (ro):

Trap Recipient's IP address :

Committing configuration.....done.

ED48K_132:root> snmpconfig --show snmpv1

SNMPv1 community and trap recipient configuration:

  Community 1: Secret C0de (rw)

    No trap recipient configured yet

  Community 2: OrigEquipMfr (rw)

    No trap recipient configured yet

  Community 3: 3ng1n33r1ng (rw)

    No trap recipient configured yet

  Community 4: 0p3r4t0r (ro)

    No trap recipient configured yet

  Community 5: common (ro)

    No trap recipient configured yet

  Community 6: FibreChannel (ro)

    No trap recipient configured yet

As you can see, public and private communities are no longer in use.

Hope it helps,

Felipon
