How does NPIV deal with shared area addressing , as the node address has been used?

[ Edited ]

This is probably a silly question .

However I have been reading up on NPIV and shared addressing on the director class switches, and I am curious about something.

NPIV uses the Node address portion of the network address, same as a public loop device.

The Loop device is no longer supported on the condor 3 ASIC which allowed them to use the node address for shared addressing.

Does that mean that NPIV is not supported on a shared address port ?

Hi,

NPIV is supported on shared area address port.

The number of possible NPIV devices is limited to 127 instead of 255, but default is 126 at all.

If you have virtual fabric enabled, then you have only the possibility to have 63 virtual devices on a shared area port.
