How do we remove a SAN safely from a multi-SAN fabric?

Hi.  We have 2 physical SANS routing through the same fiber switches.  We are in the process of decommissioning the older of the two SANS.  My concern is that we may introduce problems in the overall fabric when we power down the old SAN.  Would disabling the ports in the fiber switches that had been in use by the old SAN help ensure that we don't disrupt production when the old SAN is removed?  TIA and kind regards,  Cathy

Perhaps you should clearify what your trying to achive.

As far as i understood, you have 2 SAN's (that would make 4 fabrics) which are routed through one backbone fabric and you what to decom one of the two SAN's.

It should have no impact on the fabric you want to keep unless FCR between the two SAN has been setup.

I would recommend removing any configurations especific to the switch you're removing (unused aliases, zones, etc)

Also depends on what kind of switch, on small ones there's usually no problem.
