Flow Vision Monitor for ISL trunk

Hi folks,

i just playing around with the new flow vision technlogy and get worried about the really small documentation. I want first to set up a monitor for our ISL trunk ports and in the docu there is a part how to do this:

flow --create f1 -feature monitor -egrport 24 -srcdev 022b00 -dstdev 033a0

So now my problem begins, i have 4 ISL ports an two different slots, so how to put in the egrport, i used 1/0 as this is the location of the master. And next i dont know what to use for srcdev and dstdev, i tried with switchid and switchwwn, but always got an error. Someone has already made it and can hep me here. I did not find any hints here.

Best regards, Peter

Re: Flow Vision Monitor for ISL trunk

No it is not configured yet. Is that a prereq before using flow monitor?

Re: Flow Vision Monitor for ISL trunk

Peter,

no MAPS is not mandatory but required for monitoring.

Additional, if i remember correct some features are are not available in 8G Platform. You don't specified:

Switch Type, FOS Release, and if the Switch is Fabric Vision Licensed.

OK.

It is an DCX8510-8 and the switch is fabric vision licensed.

FOS is 7.3.1.d

Hi Peter,

makes no sense to open a ticket.

First of all, what do you want to monitor on your ISL-Ports?

Do you have a special communikation between two end-devices or do you want to know who is using the ISL?

Without this informations it is very difficult to define a flow.

Do you have the Flow Vision Admin Guide? There everything is described.

Kind Regards

Re: Flow Vision Monitor for ISL trunk

Hi,

it was good to open a call, because we have a premium contract here :-)

With this help i could set up some flow monitors. I also read the flow admin guide, but in my opinion it is not the best document to start up in here. Your are right, there is a lot of info, but the usage examples are not well described and this was the problem for me to start up here...

I now learned that you simply could use scrdev "*" and dstdev "*" so that the flow monitor is in the "learning" mode. So there you can then see up to 64 Ports that are using the isl trunk between our two data center locations.

First i will upgrade FOS from 7.3.1d to new target release 7.4.1b, there are some changes in the monitoring tools and afterwards i will set up up MAPS and FLOW Monitor in our environment.

Thanx for your tips so far..

Best regards,

Peter
