Flow Control on LS ports

Hi

Im a bit puzzeled by the flow control on a Long distance LS port

Will a ISL configured in LS mode ever take use of the Virtual channles ?

Hi Thomas,

 

We have three major mode - R_RDY, VC_RDY (standard eport), EXT_VC_RDY (long distance).  And QoS is working (Low, High) is working with VC_RDY and EXT_VC_RDY.  So, QoS VC are can be used in LS (EXT_VC_RDY).

 

Further, do not forget that in LS mode (EXT_VC_RDY) without QoS, we have traffic on VC0 (F traffic) and VC2 (collapsed VC2 to VC5).

 

The only mode no using any VC, is R_RDY (portcfgislmode).

I still have a follow up question

1- if R_RDY is not set on a LS port will then EXT_VC_RDY autmatically be enabled ?

2- Will EXT_VC_RDY use all the "datachannels" 2, 3, 4, and 5 for data transfere ?

Hi Thomas,

 

when you specify a longdistance mode - LD,LS,LE (and the earlier L1 L2) - EXT_VC_RDY (reminder = EXTension) will be enabled (if not R_RDY mode is enabled). 

 

The longdistance mode EXT_VC_RDY will use VC2 only (collapse VC2,3,4,5 onto VC2 for data transfer). So VC0 and VC2 is used only.  If QoS is enabled, the VC8,9 (low) and VC10,11,12,13,14 (High) are also used.
