Fabric + Firmware - what is working ?

Hi,

we are currently running a small fabric over 3 san switches (2 x 5300 + 1 x 5000).

Now a new switch should be integrated. All three devices a running a 6.4.3 firmware.

So if we buy something like a 6510 it will come with a 7.3(4).x - right ?

Can we add a switch running a newer firmware (7.X.Y)  into our fabric running a 6.X.Y firmware ?

So the 5300 can be updated to 7.X.Y. but the 5000 will stay at a 6 firmware.

What's the best solution ? (we are only using basic features ...)

Re: Fabric + Firmware - what is working ?

1) Brocade 5000 support FOS 6.4.3h

2) Brocade 5300 and 6510 are supported by latest FOS 7.4.x

FOS 6.4 can interoperate with FOS 7.4 for details refer Release Notes.

Additional 6510 is supported by upcoming FOS 8.x and can interoperate with FOS 7.x, however old 6.x FOS release cannot longer interoperate with FOS 8.

Re: Fabric + Firmware - what is working ?

Just two questions:

What will be the best / most stable setup for the firmware on the various switches

DS-5000 - DS-5300 - DS-5300 - ( 6510)

 6.4.X          6.4.X.        6.4.X           7.4.Y

or

DS-5000 - DS-5300 - DS-5300 - ( 6510)

 6.4.X          7.4.Y.        7.4.Y           7.4.Y

?

Second: We have the following setup (fabric)

DS-5000 - DS-5300 - DS-5300

 6.4.3b          6.4.3b        6.4.3b

If I apply the update (6.4.3g) on one DS-5300 - is automatically installed on all fabric members ?

If not - on whicht switch should I start ?
