FC8-64 and addressing

Hello!

What kind of cable solutions are you guys using with the FC8-64 blades?

Also, with a potentially full DCX 8510-8 with FC8-64, are any special addressing settings required?
Like Dynamic Area Mode? Is it a 10-bit addressing by default now?

Is there an page or topic that would show 'configure --show' on a Brocade SAN switch?

Configure has lots of settings but it's not so easy to correlate the settings and what is available in 'configshow'.

Re: FC8-64 and addressing

I've attached a link to a white paper concerning high density cabling (with regards to fc8-64 http://www.brocadechina.com/download/HighDensityCabling_BestPractices_GA-BP-253-02.pdf

There's a genreal whitepaper as well http://www.brocade.com/downloads/documents/white_papers/Cabling_Best_Practices_GA-BP-036-02.pdf

10 bit is indeed the default in a logical switch. Virtual Fabric need to be enabled which is the default for new switches.

Only the base switch will use fixed adressing.

Configshow gives alot off info, you can use grep to filter what you want, alternativly you can use configshow fabric.ops to display fabric parameters only

Re: FC8-64 and addressing

Ah, good to know about the Virtual Fabric by default, thanks. So if we do not want to use virtual fabric we would be stuck with the fixed addressing?

Yes the 'fabric.ops' are nice, but how to correlate between those and the ones in 'configure'?

For example, which entry in configshow is the 'dynamic area mode'?

Re: FC8-64 and addressing

From the FOS Administrator's Guide 7.0.0 on page 36 it says that the default switch in the DCX still uses fixed addressing mode.

So to have a DCX with more than 256 ports we need to (to have them in the same domain) create a logical switch and put all ports in there?

True.

True in the sence that Brocade recommends that you should use the default switch as container for unused ports. So from that POV, yes you should create a LS and move the port you need to that LS (or other LSses).

False because the switch can use Shared Area Addressing (node adress is either 00 or 80) in the default switch with a maximum of 384 ports.

But I would go for the LS solution fro scalability and VF is enabled anyways by default.
