Extend Existing Fabric

Hello,

I have two existing fabrics each consisting of a single Brocade 5300. We recently purchased two new 5300s for the purpose of extending each fabric. We leveraged professional services to configure the new switches but due to unrelated problems, we were unable to connect the new switches to our fabric while the engineer was onsite. All of our switches have enterprise licenses.

FabricA

Existing Switch name: FCSW09 (domain ID: 105)

New Switch name: FCSW11 (domain ID: 1)

FabricB

Existing Switch name: FCSW10 (domain ID: 10)

New Switch name: FCSW12 (domain ID: 2)

When I connected the 4 trunk links from our new swtich to the existing switch in FabricA, everything lit up as expected. I was able to discover the fabric in BNA and everything looks good.

switchshow output from FCSW09

44  44   692c00   id    N8   Online      FC  E-Port  10:00:00:05:1e:72:06:89 "FCSW11" (upstream)(Trunk master)
45  45   692d00   id    N8   Online      FC  E-Port  (Trunk port, master is Port 44 )
46  46   692e00   id    N8   Online      FC  E-Port  (Trunk port, master is Port 44 )
47  47   692f00   id    N8   Online      FC  E-Port  (Trunk port, master is Port 44 )

When I attempted to connect the first trunk link from the switch (FCSW12) to our existing switch (FCSW10) in FabricB, the additional port info indicated "(Segmented)(Domain Overlap)"

switchshow output from FCSW10

44  44   0a2c00   id    N8   No_Light    FC
45  45   0a2d00   id    N8   Online      FC  E-Port  segmented,(domain overlap)(Trunk master)
46  46   0a2e00   id    N8   No_Light    FC

I have verified settings such as R_A_TOV and ED_TOV have the same parameters on FCSW10 and FCSW12.

FCSW10:admin> configshow | grep TOV
fabric.ops.E_D_TOV:2000
fabric.ops.R_A_TOV:10000

FCSW12:FID128:admin> configshow | grep TOV
fabric.ops.E_D_TOV:2000
fabric.ops.R_A_TOV:10000

I thought I would start here for assistance before I opened a support case. Thanks in advance for any assistance that can be provided.

Re: Extend Existing Fabric

show to me, as any default_zoning is active or was present in NEW Switch, or you have merge any the config during connct the Switch in ISL

disconnet this both now, and try follow:

- switchdisable

- cfgdisable

- cfgclear

- configure, set/check all fabric parameters this must be the same as all other switch in the Fabric, excepted DID

- switchenable

- portstatsclear

- portlogclear

Reboot the switch.

re-config Trunking.

Re: Extend Existing Fabric

TechHelp24,

Thanks so much for the quick response. I compared the default zone configuration on each switch and sure enough, the new switch we were attempting to add to FabricB was setup as "all access". I ran defzone --noaccess (to match the other switch), cfgsave, switchdisable and switchenable. My trunk link is now created successfully.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Extend Existing Fabric

I made a rookie mistake. I determine the issue was resolved because the port info within Port Administration initially indicated the port as (Trunk Port)(Trunk Master). However, it eventually changed to (Segmented)(Domain Overlap).

I'm not sure how to unmark the question as answered. I'll get the information you requested and post back.

Re: Extend Existing Fabric

AFAIK, you cannot unmark any Thread, but not sure...

however this not solve you problem.

Q.:

are all Trunk member Port you want to create in the same Octet ?

Re: Extend Existing Fabric

Do a portcfgshow and check that your longdistance setting is the same for all ports in your trunk.

Check also that QOS E_Port is set the same for all ports.

Do a licenseshow and check if your QOS license is in all your switches.

Good luck

Re: Extend Existing Fabric

Are you really sure that you have set the domain ID correctly on both switches?

Re: Extend Existing Fabric

Yes, the trunk ports are 44-47 on both switches.

Re: Extend Existing Fabric

I've  provided the request output below. The only difference with the license show is that the new switch (FCSW12) includes the "Enhanced Group Management License". I have verified my other pair of swtiches also show the same license output.
