The difference is in the role these switches are playing in the SAN.

Re: Difference between core switch and Backbone switch?

Hello Jeet

Typically a backbone product (DCX, DCX-4S, DCX8510-8, DCX8510-4) play a role of Core switch in Core/Edge Topology.

With integrated license installed, any combination of FOS switches and routers can make up the backbone fabric in FC-FC Routing.

Thanks
