DS5100B upgrade FOS 6.4 to 7.x

[ Edited ]

Good day!

I have some Brocade DS5100B switches (coming with EMC CX4-240) it running FOS v6.4.

According documentation for FOS 7.x - DS5100 is supported for upgrade.

is there any caveats with upgrade?

nervous about fabric, config and installed licenses.

thank you!

Hi Nikita,

FOS 7.x is fully supported on DS5100B and you shouldn't have any issues upgrading the FOS. As a good practice, review the Release Notes of the destination FOS release in order to check special condition that you may need to take into account.

thank you for answer!

if i upgrade and reboot one switch in fabric, FOS 7.x will countinue to work in one fabric with FOS 6.4? in theory, of course ;)

Re: DS5100B upgrade FOS 6.4 to 7.x

Nikita, your upgrade path is as follows:

6.4.x (current) -> 7.0.x (latest GA) -> 7.1.x (latest GA) -> 7.2.x (latest GA) etc... etc...

You can stop at 7.2 or get to 7.3 as well. This is called "target path" and you can google for the document with this name.

If you upgrade this way, switch performs so called non disruptive upgrade. Fabric OS resets the CP during this process (using "hareboot") but the switch ASIC continues operations.
