DCX8510-4

Hi,

I’m going to be taking delivery of two DCX8510-4 switches and each one will be connected to our existing two fabrics.

Each Chassis will have two fc16-48 port blades. When it comes to cabling servers or storage, do you say connect a server with two HBA’s (one port per HBA) across both the DCX blades i.e.

Server HBA 1 connects to DCX Blade slot 1 port 10

Server HBA 2 connects to DCX Blade slot 2 port 10

Or would you connect both HBA’s to a port group (i.e. Port 0-7) on one Blade slot only so they both use the same ASIC?

 Regards

Andy

Andy,

NO!

the best practicies to connect both HBA to both Blade is correct.

In such case wenn One Blade is faulty the Server Traffic continued to work at Second Blade.

Re: DCX8510-4

Thanks.

Another question if you don't mind.

Initially, we are not going to purchase trunking licenses. Can I create an active / standby ISL and place one cable in each Blade?

Regards

Andy

No.

trunking is intended to connect - ISL = Inter Switch Link - from One switch to another one and not to create a Trunk beetwen two blade in the same chassis.

Keep in mind when you connect TWO or more Switch via ISL, ISL for a Fabric,

Re: DCX8510-4

Sorry, may have confused you...

The ISL will go from one DCX to a Brocade 6510.

e.g. Port 0 on 6510 to port 0 on DCX Blade slot 1

Port 1 on 6510 to port 0 on DCX blade slot 2

Re: DCX8510-4

Yes that work fine and is correct.

Since no Trunking License is present, i would suggest to connect TWO Port to Blade 1 and TWO Port to Blade 2

In such case ISL form a DPS = Dynamic Path Selections

for details refer the FOS Admin Guide.
