C3 discarded frames on DCX director connected to IBM SVC 6.3

I have a DCX director (2499-816) FOS 7.1.1 connected to IBM SVC 6.3 the SVC connected ports on the director are showing alot of C3 discarded frames and also Time BB_credit zero. also we are geting adaptor error on the host

can anyone please explane this and how to solve it.

Hello Ahussien,

How is the topology of your SVC ? how many iogroups?

How do you interconnect both nodes in an iogroup ?

Do you share the svc ports to both backend and front end traffic?

How do you populate your storage and SVC ports on the DCX ?

What blade types do you use on the DCX ?

Keep in mind that you should avoid the use of ISL to interconnect both nodes on an SVC iogroup. If you do not use ISL to the interconnect, do you best to use local switching to that (same asic)

For big SVC implementation or high traffic applications, its not a good idea to share BE (storage) and FE (hosts) traffic in a single port.

How is the topology of your SVC ? how many iogroups? I have 2 IOgroups

How do you interconnect both nodes in an iogroup ? FC

Do you share the svc ports to both backend and front end traffic? yes but this is the best thing as per IBM

How do you populate your storage and SVC ports on the DCX ? spred on 4 modules

What blade types do you use on the DCX ? 4*48 8G

what is your firmware level on the DCX ?

I dont like to share host and storage on big environments. Is that your case?

How many switches do you have? do you use core-edge topology? is the svc connected to the core?

can you send a switchshow of you DCX and tell us the ports where the SVC nodes as connected?

Re: C3 discarded frames on DCX director connected to IBM SVC 6.3

what is your firmware level on the DCX ? 7.1.1

I dont like to share host and storage on big environments. Is that your case? SVC best practice is to zone all SVC ports with the host and zone all SVC ports with storage

How many switches do you have? do you use core-edge topology? is the svc connected to the core? all storage and hosts are consolidated on the DCX

can you send a switchshow of you DCX and tell us the ports where the SVC nodes as connected?

Can you share the switchshow?

that issue can also come from cabling, if you did not clean the plugs before connecting everything to the dcx.

but if you can not share switchshow, how do you think we can help you?

Re: C3 discarded frames on DCX director connected to IBM SVC 6.3

it's no cables this problem is occouring in 2 different data centers with different DCX's and SVC's

regarding the switchshow do you need an upload of the full result or just part of it

Since this can't be solved with a guess, all i can do is to wish you good luck.
