Brocade 6505 and UCS 6120

[ Edited ]

Hello,

We are moving from MDS switches to Brocade 6505 as part of a new SAN implementation.  We currently have portchannels configured from our MDS to the UCS boxes.  Is there a way to create aggregated links from the Brocade to the UCS?  I know port channel is proprietary to Cisco, but we're looking for something at least similar.

Also if there is any documentation to support any information provided, it would be much appreciated.  Most of the docs I find are from 2013 or older.

Thanks,

Jack

Or if there is nothing out there of this sort, is there at least a best practices guide for UCS and Brocade?

Re: Brocade 6505 and UCS 6120

Jack,

do you want to connect the Cisco UCS via Interconnet to Brocade 6505, or is the UCS equiped with Nexus 5xxx Series Switches ?

Re: Brocade 6505 and UCS 6120

No nexus, we're looking to directly connect to the FI.

Thanks,

Jack

Re: Brocade 6505 and UCS 6120

is all very simple.

see attached DOC for you reference, and follow this instruction.

The main configuration settings you need to pay attention to are:

1 NPIV mode must be enabled on the Brocade FC ports where you connect the uplinks from UCS (FabricInterconnect or NX5k)

a.Per default NPIV is enabled on all ports ..but check in case customer has changed that

2 On Condor 2 you must set the fill-word manually [to mode 2, -idle-arbff]

a.–on the Condor 3 fillword command is decrapted

3 You must decide how you will configure the VSAN configuration ..either pinning ….or most likely create VSAN A (to Brcd Fabric A) & VSAN B (to Brcd Fabric B)

4 Finally ..of course you must create the zoning in the brocade Fabrics.

This all are described in detail in the doc.

Antonio,

Thank you for the reply, much appreciated.

Will this configuration provide with the same bandwidth and redundance as a native MDS-->UCS portchannel would?

Jack

Re: Brocade 6505 and UCS 6120

Jack,

I' not sure what you mean with "bandwidth"

Portspeed on Brocade 6505 is 16G, if you use 16G SFP+ or 8 if you use 8G SFP+

Re: Brocade 6505 and UCS 6120

Antonio,

I mean in a port channel you end up with aggregated bandwith increase because you tie together mulitple physical ports into a logical one.  Does the Brocade provide similar or same functionality with this sort of configuration?

Jack

Re: Brocade 6505 and UCS 6120

Brocade don't support Portchannel.

Antonio,

True, i'm just asking if there is an equivalent that can be implemented between the Brocade and UCS?

Jack
