Brocade 48000 got "[FCPD-1001], 62536,, WARNING, Probing failed on F-port 18."

Hi gents,

the brocade 48000 got ", 62536,HNDL_1SW_UP, Probing failed on F-port 18.". i have searched FCPD-1001, it is means that when the firmware on the device controller on the specified port has a defect.Check with the device vendor for a firmware upgrade containing a defect fix.

this FOS is version  6.1.0a, the port 18 of switch connected to storage,many fiber port of switchs connected to the storage, other port don't have any warning information.

what should i do?

do a firmware upgrade in the storage?  i think this is not correct.

Please check with portcfgshow the affected port 18 and a storage port which is working fine. Compare the settings and make them equal.

It could be possible that you have a conflict between storage and switch port settings. I assume that switch try to poll the storage first as loop but the expected reply is wrong. You can configure the switch port to use only F_port negotiation. In other word set the switch port to be a G-port which disallow to become L-Port (loop port).

You can set the port 18 as G-port with this command: portcfggport 18 1

Also check on the storage side which topology settings are configured for the affected port. I assume preferred Loop then fabric / point to point

i don't know why port 18 often change state after become an F-port.

BTW: the port of Storage is point-to-point setting.

can you provide a fabriclog -s output.

In the portlog dump I can only see one LR2.

But currently I am not sure if LR2 was send from the Storage or not. The related documents are in the office and I have no access to them. I love paper books...

Buy the way portstatsshow and porterrshow should also help a little bit to get it clear.

The Storage port should not be set to "Point to Point" that setting is for a direct attachment of a host, not for 'Fabric switch' attachment.

sorrry for my late response.

I have attached files of fabriclog -s and portstatsshow information.

I haven't seen any error in porterrshow information.

now the switch still get "probing failing in port 18", and have LR2 in portlogdump in many times.

when you connect from switch to HBA or Storage port, the HBA or Storage port  should be set to point to point setting. not loop setting.

Hi Richard,

this is a so called flapping port.

This cause much management traffic to the zone member of port 18. I assume that on the physical link layer something is wrong. If possible disable this port  and check first the cabling and SFPs on both sides of the end (switch and storage array!).

In addition check the connected servers. They sould have problems with the performance.

Check your zoning DB and remove all WWN which have no proper LUN masking on that port.

It can be possible that one HBA is sending rubbish to the storage port and the target port is "confused" and starts the error recovery function LINK RESET.
