I have a Brocade 3900 that I have just brought from Ebay and interested to see whether this would run FabricOS 6.2, I have brought this for a test lab to support studies for my certification towards Brocade Fabric Professional. Your time and help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks very much, however not looking to really be supported by Brocade as it will only be used in a test lab.
Just wondering whether the switch will be capable of running 6.x FabricOS to help me prepare for Brocade certifications that I am studying for?

the FOS support in 3900, same by 3850 and 24000 is caused by the Hardware / ASIC ( BLOOM, BLOOM2 ) restriction.
However would the switch supported 6.2, don't change anything of situatuon that feature which are supported in FOS 6.2 or FOS 6.3 would don't work due to hardware restriction.
Some feature in FOS 6.2 and 6.3 are supported by 4G Based Plattforms, ( Brocade 200E, Brocade 5000, and Brocade 4100 )
If you need other feature to test for the Brocade Certified such as TI, IR, etc, this work only in new 8G Based Hardware.

Which certification you are studying for? BCFA/BCFP/BCFD. In all these exams, you need to know about 8 Gbps SWs' HW and SW concepts. Yes on 3900, you can get basic SAN concepts like zoning and ISL, trunking, licenses, Webtools, SNMP, security, blah..blah..blah but for exam preparation, pls go thorugh the nutshells.and then free study materials available on Brocade sites also free knowledge assessment test. atleast you will come to know which kind of questions, you will face. BCFA is all about SAN basics.
