8Gb/s SFP+ Brocade branded (P/N 57-1000012-01)

Hi all,

I've got a question regarding Brocade branded 8Gbps SFP+, i.e. we're currently looking at a switch where the same SFP type (by P/N and other values like wavelength etc.) appears to be multisourced (i.e. different vendors), see differences marked in bold below.

This is the "sfpshow" output from two different switches:

=============
Port  0:
=============
Identifier:  3    SFP
Connector:   7    LC
Transceiver: 540c402000000000 200,400,800_MB/s M5,M6 sw Inter_dist
Encoding:    1    8B10B
Baud Rate:   85   (units 100 megabaud)
Length 9u:   0    (units km)
Length 9u:   0    (units 100 meters)
Length 50u:  5    (units 10 meters)
Length 62.5u:3    (units 10 meters)
Length Cu:   0    (units 1 meter)
Vendor Name: BROCADE
Vendor OUI:  00:05:1e
Vendor PN:   57-1000012-01
Vendor Rev:  A
Wavelength:  850  (units nm)
Options:     001a Loss_of_Sig,Tx_Fault,Tx_Disable
BR Max:      0
BR Min:      0
Serial No:   UAA4081802003GM
Date Code:   080503
Temperature: 52 Centigrade
Current:     6.160 mAmps
Voltage:     3302.9 mVolts
RX Power:    -5.1  dBm (310.2 uWatts)
TX Power:    -2.6  dBm (553.0 uWatts)

=============
Port  0:
=============
Identifier:  3    SFP
Connector:   7    LC
Transceiver: 540c404000000000 200,400,800_MB/s M5,M6 sw Short_dist
Encoding:    1    8B10B
Baud Rate:   85   (units 100 megabaud)
Length 9u:   0    (units km)
Length 9u:   0    (units 100 meters)
Length 50u:  5    (units 10 meters)
Length 62.5u:2    (units 10 meters)
Length Cu:   0    (units 1 meter)
Vendor Name: BROCADE
Vendor OUI:  00:05:1e
Vendor PN:   57-1000012-01
Vendor Rev:  A
Wavelength:  850  (units nm)
Options:     003a Loss_of_Sig,Tx_Fault,Tx_Disable
BR Max:      0
BR Min:      0
Serial No:   UAF1084700006Y0
Date Code:   081118
Temperature: 52 Centigrade
Current:     8.890 mAmps
Voltage:     3320.7 mVolts
RX Power:    -4.2  dBm (384.2 uWatts)
TX Power:    -3.3  dBm (469.6 uWatts)

What strikes me as weird are the following points in particular:

1) the descriptor Inter_dist versus Short_dist (I've only seen the first one thus far)

2) the fact that the current is ~2000mA higher on the second SFP

3) the fact that the 2nd SFP shows only 20m supported distance for OM1 cabling, whilst the first one shows 30m ..

So my question really is: are there any known issues with regards to interop between those two SFP types? Are there Interop issues when using them on the same switch?

And last but not least: what exactly does the first # in the Options section represent?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

crs

Hello Christophe,

Were you ever able to find an answer to this post?

Looks like there are a lot of touches on it, but no solutions....

Hi Tina,

Thanks for the follow-up.

I had a case opened with Brocade Support. They confirmed that Brocade branded SFP's are multisourced, but that they are all compatible and interchangeable.
