Brocade 300 SAN Switch fails to start Common Access Layer DAEMON (CALD)

I am working with the Brocade SMI-S provider v120.10.0 and a Brocade 300 SAN switch running Fabric OS v6.4.0.c and I am having problems gathering zoning information from the switch via the SMI-S provider.  I have seen a technote on the IBM website https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21426285   that lists a number of items to check on the switch. In the technote it lists the Common Access Layer Daemon (CALD) as a process that should be running.  I can see that chkconfig shows the serivce as enabled:

root> chkconfig | grep cald

cald    on

When I check to see if it is running with the ps -ef command, I see nothing.  If I try to start cald manually, I see this error:

root> /fabos/libexec/cald -S fcsw -s 0
cald: unable to initialize ipc: -11
cal: ASP init failure (-4)

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Re: Brocade 300 SAN Switch fails to start Common Access Layer DAEMON (CALD)

Hi,

I have executed those commands you mentioned and get the same output. On the other hand, CALD process is running as expected, please, try

ps exfcl |grep cald

and cald process should appear.

Re: Brocade 300 SAN Switch fails to start Common Access Layer DAEMON (CALD)

Thanks! I see that CALD is running:

root> ps exfcl |grep cald
5     0  1003   908  16   0 115500 13700 -      Ssl  ?          1:35      \_ cald0

Does anyone know of any documentation about the Common Access Layer DAEMON?
