ping icx7750 router virtual interface

Hi,

I have some question about ping ICX 7750.

I have 2 ICX 7750 as stacking and CB and 2 ICX 7250 as PE.

The firmware is 0.8.0.50.

I connected 2 host on different ICX 7250.

Host A is VLAN 10, 10.11.10.1/24  and host B isVLAN 10, 10.11.10.20/24.

ICX 7750 have ve 2 VLAN 10, 10.11.10.254.

I try ping from host A to host B, it take about 0.6-0.7 ms.

But I ping from host A to ve, it take about 2ms sometime it take about 40 ms.

What cause it take so long time?

Re: ping icx7750 router virtual interface

The VE's job is to route traffic, since it's a virtual interface, ICMP packets intended for it hit the CPU, that traffic is de-prioritized and the VE will respond as it can. This is common across Brocade products, but does cause issues for people who say things like when I ping my gateway I get latency.

Might try different firmware.  Universally, I always get 1ms unless I am going across several switches.
