how to delete startup config on FastIron WS without flash image

I have a FastIron 648G which doesn't have a flash image but does have a startup configuration. I can load a flash image via TFTP from the boot menu however I can't seem to do that in conjunction with the "no password" command which is how I would normally delete a startup config. For example, the process I'm doing looks like this (the IP's has been obfuscated):

FGS Boot Code Version 05.0.00

Enter 'b' to stop at boot ...

BOOT INFO: primary does not exist

BOOT INFO: secondary does not exist

FGS-Boot>no password

FGS-Boot>ip address x.x.x.x/x

BOOT INFO: load monitor from boot flash, size = 105737

BOOT INFO: prepare tftp client..

IP address = x.x.x.x, subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

FGS-Boot(x.x.x.x)>boot sys tftp x.x.x.x FWS07400c.bin

BOOT INFO: tftp copy successful!

--snip--

hostname>en

User Name:

I'm stuck at this point since I don't know the login. Any thoughts on how to delete the start config or know of a firmware designed that I could load via TFTP that is designed for recovery (I.e. flash file management)?

Re: how to delete startup config on FastIron WS without flash image

Andrew,

If you don’t need startup-config file than you can delete it from the login prompt by doing 'ctrl m' to enter monitor mode, then delete or copy flash

If this doesn’t work, you will have to hard erase eeprom.

thanks,

Re: how to delete startup config on FastIron WS without flash image

At what point do I press Control+M? I tried when powering on the FWS but I still get the same prompt:

FGS Boot Code Version 05.0.00

Enter 'b' to stop at boot ...

BOOT INFO: primary does not exist

BOOT INFO: secondary does not exist

FGS-Boot>

With these options:

boot             Boot system

ip               Set IP address

monitor          Toggle monitor mode

reset            Reset system

show             Show information

Re: how to delete startup config on FastIron WS without flash image

From doing some more searching through reading other posts it appears you are correct about the Control+M and for me it is at the login screen after booting a flash image via TFTP. However, there must be a bit more to it. When I press Ctrl-M at the FWS648G Switch> prompt I just get a new line as if I've pressed Enter. I'm not sure if I need to setup something within my PuTTY settings or what to enable the monitor mode but I think you're on the right track. Do you have any suggestions?

Re: how to delete startup config on FastIron WS without flash image

Andrew,

As per feedback from an SME, yes you are right;  you need to do ctrl+m while booting up . I am double checking on this to see if there is any additional step that is missing. I  shall get back to you when I have an update.

thanks,

Re: how to delete startup config on FastIron WS without flash image

hi;

do once you are in switch prompt, do the following.....

FWS624GPOE Switch>

FWS624GPOE Switch>

FWS624GPOE Switch>

FWS624GPOE Switch> cltr-y-m

FWS-Monitor>

FWS-Monitor>

FWS-Monitor>dir

    416213 boot.bin

   2864282 primary.bin

   2891960 secondary.bin

      2139 startup-config.backup

      2113 startup-config.txt

         0 /root

      5044 /sys

         0 /tmp

   6181751 bytes used

  24379392 bytes free

FWS-Monitor>

now delete startup-config.txt and startup-config.backup files.

FWS-Monitor>del startup-config.backup
FWS-Monitor>del startup-config.txt
FWS-Monitor>
FWS-Monitor>boot sys fl pri

BOOT INFO: load monitor from primary, size = 243029
Appln_Monitor:root_task: ***local_overide = 0***
BOOT INFO: load image from primary
Brocade PPC filter after decompression

BOOT INFO: bootparam at 0013c96c, mp_fl

it will come up with blank config....
