Why buy Brocade POE switches?

We're a small business of under 50 employees. We currently have a Cisco small business SGE2000P pair of switches serving as POE switches. We're about to replace our core switches with FCX switches. The question came up about replacing the POE switches with FWS648G switches (a pair for redundancy). However the Cisco ones cost around $900 a piece whereas the Brocade ones cost around $6K including support. Of course we'd buy 3 of the SGE2000P switches so we had an extra one for redundancy. So the question becomes:

What added features, functionality, etc do the FWS POE switches give that justify the extra money? $3K for 3 of the Cisco small business switches or $12K for 2 of the FWS switches.

Re: Why buy Brocade POE switches?

Hi,

There are lots of differances etween those two switches (max VLAN supported, QoS hardware queues etc).

However itt comes down to do you need the features or not - in your case I do not think you need more then 256 VLAN, can live with only 4 hardware queues.  But the choice is yours.

Compare both datasheets to help make up your mind.

Thanks

Michael.

You shouldn't be paying $6000.00 for an FWS648G-POE switch.... They shouldn't be that expensive.

I misspoke. It was $4332 including tax, shipping and 3 years NBD support. For a 648G model.
