With the advent of technologies like 100GbE and Ethernet Fabrics, people are starting to turn an eye toward the networks of the future.
While a lot of room still exists for further development, the technologies for Ethernet at huge scales are here now. Such technologies are at different stages, but all provide exciting possibilities for the next generation network. With the widely increasing spread of server virtualization, Ethernet Fabrics, for example, are on the minds of many organizations. Another next generation technology, 100GbE, has a clear path to deployment, and has already been deployed today in fully functioning networks.
As such technologies continue to spread and see adoption rates climb, the next-generation network will keep getting closer. If you're interested in anything related to 100GbE, you should check out this webinar (titled "The Emerging 100GE Network Era") happening on 12/8/2011.
