Video: Creating and Configuring Multiple VLANs

This video will show you the steps to create multiple VLANs with a single command on Brocade campus switches.

0:00 – Hello and welcome to the Brocade campus feature explainer series I'm Terry

0:03 – Henry this time around we're going to look at how to add and configure

0:07 – multiple vlans so normally when we create VLANS we create each vlan

0:18 – separately right so you go into config t so we do vlan and let's say vlan 2

0:23 – tag e 1/2/1

0:27 – you know vlan 3 tag e 1/2/1 so that works well with a small number of

0:36 – vlans right but it becomes pretty monotonous especially if you've got a

0:40 – lot of vlans on a single uplink

0:43 – there is a much easier way to accomplish the same thing rather than going to each

0:48 – VLAN and adding that port to it

0:50 – so what we do is we use the VLAN range so we can do up to 64 ports at a time

0:56 – with a range command so we'll do VLAN let's say 100 to 150 and with the 50

1:04 – feelings with a single command right so I am now in this range so it is it is

1:09 – config multi VLAN 100 and 150 and then I can do multiple things with in there so

1:16 – I can tag ports

1:18 – I can turn on layer 2 loop avoidance of spanning tree or rapid spanning tree and I can

1:24 – this is also how I would remove multiple I can monitor

1:27 – I can turn on multicast so there's a few different things I can do in here

1:32 – I can't do untagged because I can't have the same port un-tagged in multiple

1:36 – vlans so untagged you're kind of on your own you got to do this one at a

1:40 – time but for tagged ports we could do multi at once so let's say I'm going to

1:46 – e 1/2/1 e 1/2/3

1:51 – alright so once that's done there we go so I have now tagged both of those up

1:58 – links on all 50 vlans with a single command

2:01 – I can also do things like turn on spanning tree so I can do a span 802-1w to

2:06 – turn on rapid spanning tree and all those vlans at once I

2:12 – can set the root bridge the bridge priority so I could be a priority 0

2:18 – you know so the beauty of this though is it's different than vlan groups so

2:25 – because each VLAN in the configuration is completely separate so it's actually

2:31 – configuring all those vlans as separate entities which can be from that point

2:36 – they can be customized separately we can add untagged ports we can do anything a

2:41 – VLAN can do

2:42 – so we're not we're not stuck with just whatever you've configured under that

2:47 – multi vlan command you can go ahead and customize each one of those vlans if we

2:52 – use something like vlan groups which is explained better in another video in

2:55 – the topology group and VLAN group video a vlan group is a group of vlans that

3:03 – has to have the same parameter so when I can figure those tag ports or spanning

3:08 – tree or whatever it has to be exactly the same and it doesn't show up as

3:12 – separate entities in the configuration file so you are stuck with whatever

3:16 – you've got

3:17 – anyway so that is a really easy way and then we can go in and use the remove

3:23 – commands to remove you know multiple ports from the VLAN or multiple vlans

3:28 – in the port of tagged un-tagged etc. using that that multi group as well right so I

3:35 – could go in and say remove tag ports from all those vlans or remove untag

3:39 – ports from those vlans etc so anyway

3:44 – much easier than having to go to each VLAN and still gives you a

3:48 – customizable configuration at the end of the day
