VPLS Auto-discovery endpoints

Hello all,

I have a question regarding Auto-discovery......How are the endpoints defined??? just as in a normal VPLS configuration?

For example here:

Brocade(config)# int loopback 1

Brocade(config-lbif-1)# ip address 10.1.1.1/32

Brocade(config-lbif-1)#exit

Brocade(config)#router bgp

BGP4: Please configure 'local-as' parameter in order to enable BGP4.

Brocade(config-bgp)#local-as 10

Brocade(config-bgp)#neighbor 10.1.1.2 remote-as 10

Brocade(config-bgp)#exit

Brocade(config)# router mpls

Brocade(config-mpls)#mpls-interface ethernet 1/1      <<<<------------ IS THIS THE ENDPOINT? Or the link towards P router in MPLS cloud?

Brocade(config-mpls)# vpls C1 10

Brocade(config-mpls-vpls-C1)#auto-discovery

Brocade(config-mpls)#exit

Brocade(config-bgp)#address-family l2vpn vpls

Brocade(config-bgp-l2vpn-vpls)#neighbor 10.1.1.2 activate

Brocade(config-bgp-l2vpn-vpls)#exit-address-family

Brocade(config-bgp)#exit

-------------

If that is the endpoint....how does the system know that is tagged or untagged....if that is not the endpoint, you have to define it as in the normal vpls config? Below auto-discovery you define the endpoint?

Brocade(config-mpls)# vpls C1 10

Brocade(config-mpls-vpls-C1)#auto-discovery

Brocade(config-mpls-vpls-C1)#vlan 100

Brocade(config-mpls-vpls-C1)#tagged eth 2/1

Brocade(config-mpls)#exit

Re: VPLS Auto-discovery endpoints

Which Chassis are you talking about here Ernesto? Is it NetIron MLX?

Re: VPLS Auto-discovery endpoints

That is correct, MLX16 running 5.3d code

Re: VPLS Auto-discovery endpoints

Hello Ernesto,

Your second guess is the correct one : VPLS endpoints are defined under VPLS instance stanza

Brocade(config-mpls)# vpls C1 10

Brocade(config-mpls-vpls-C1)#auto-discovery

Brocade(config-mpls-vpls-C1)#vlan 100

Brocade(config-mpls-vpls-C1)#tagged eth 2/1

Brocade(config-mpls)#exit

This is for activating MPLS LDP in the core backbone :

Brocade(config)# router mpls

Brocade(config-mpls)#mpls-interface ethernet 1/1

Hope this helps.

Best regards.

Re: VPLS Auto-discovery endpoints

That's what I thought, I dont know why Brocade put that step as part of configuration because to run this it is obvious that you should already be running MPLS/LDP in the core..that's why I was confused.

Thank you very much for your help!

Ernesto
