Multiple IP subnets with VRRP in a single VLAN

Would this setup work for having multiple ip subnets, both with VRRP setup, attached to a single VLAN? Is there anything I should keep in mind for this type of a setup or is it pretty straight forward? (I can't test this before I deploy it)

vlan 5 name vlan5 by port

tagged ethe 1/11 ethe 1/23 to 1/24 ethe 2/1 to 2/2 ethe 2/14 ethe 2/17 ethe 2/19 to 2/20 ethe 2/23 to 2/24

untagged ethe 1/4 to 1/10 ethe 1/12 ethe 1/14 to 1/22 ethe 2/13 ethe 2/18 ethe 3/1 to 3/4 ethe 3/6 to 3/7 ethe 3/11 ethe 3/13 to 3/15 ethe 3/20 to 3/21

router-interface ve 5

router-interface ve 181

spanning-tree priority 8192

interface ve 5

ip address 172.17.5.1 255.255.255.0

ip vrrp-extended vrid 5

  backup priority 110

  ip-address 172.17.5.3

  track-port e 2/23 priority 20

  enable

interface ve 181

ip address 172.27.181.1 255.255.255.0

ip vrrp-extended vrid 181

  backup priority 110

  ip-address 172.27.181.3

  track-port e 2/23 priority 20

  enable

Also, is there any epected downtime when adding that ‘router-interface ve 181’ into the existing config? I assume no but trying to avoid surprises.

Re: Multiple IP subnets with VRRP in a single VLAN

I don't think you can have more than one ve per vlan.  I will try it in our lab when I get a chance.

When you add a ve it should be up and running in less than a second normally.  In the situation you are trying to do with multiple ve on a vlan I am not sure.

Re: Multiple IP subnets with VRRP in a single VLAN

You can't define more then one VE per vlan.
However, you can assign multiple subnets per VE, and each of them can be in VRRP as well

Example from my config on one of the boxes (replaced the first two octets).

!
interface ve 101
ip address a.b.193.254/24
ip address a.b.194.254/24
ip address a.b.195.254/24
ip address a.b.196.254/24
no ip redirect
ip vrrp-extended vrid 57
  backup
  ip-address a.b.193.1
  activate
ip vrrp-extended vrid 58
  backup
  ip-address a.b.194.1
  activate
ip vrrp-extended vrid 59
  backup
  ip-address a.b.195.1
  activate
ip vrrp-extended vrid 60
  backup
  ip-address a.b.196.1
  activate
