MLXe4 routing not line rate?

Anyone have any idea why I only see 45 Mblps when using iperf between hosts on different subnets/vlans who's default gw resides on the mlx?

iperf -c 10.66.0.11 -p 9999 -t 30
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 10.66.0.11, TCP port 9999
TCP window size: 85.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[  3] local 10.192.0.11 port 41910 connected with 10.66.0.11 port 9999
[ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
[  3]  0.0-20.2 sec   101 MBytes  41.9 Mbits/sec

Yet when I move the default gw's off the mlx to something else like a turbo iron I get 1 Gbps throughput? The link to the Mlx is 10Gbps...

iperf -c 10.66.0.11 -p 9999 -t 30
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 10.192.0.11, TCP port 9999
TCP window size: 85.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[  3] local 10.10.1.200 port 39340 connected with 10.66.0.11 port 9999
[ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
[  3]  0.0-30.0 sec  3.25 GBytes   932 Mbits/sec

Thanks!

Give

no ip icmp redirects

in the global configuration level a try. Thats 99% the cause ;-)

Also you can monitor the linecard processor and e.g. search for dropped packets:

sh lp-cpu packet statistics
