Ironware - Port VLAN Creation via SNMP

Hi all,

working on a NetIron CES 2048CX, 4.1, BASE.

I am in need of adding (untagged) ports to VLANs via SNMP (i.e. remotely). I am accessing the NetIron via a Linux box, using net-snmp as the NMS tool. According to the Ironware MIB Reference, VLAN creation should occur as follows:

snVLanByPortMemberRowStatus

brcdIp.1.1.3.2.6.1.3

Syntax: Integer  Read-write     Controls the management of the table rows. The values that can be  written are:

• delete(3) – Delete the row

• create(4) – Create a new row

If the row exists, then a SET with a value of create(4) returns a "bad

value" error. Deleted rows are removed from the table immediately.

The following values can be returned on reads:

• noSuch(0) – No such row

• other(1) – Some other case

• valid(2) – Row exists and is valid

VLAN 10 exists on the switch (created via CLI manually and two ports, 1/11 and 1/13 have been added to it via CLI - mnaually). This is confirmed via SNMP, according to the following output:

# snmpwalk -On -v 2c -c public switch-edge-A1 .1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.3.10

.1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.3.10.11 = INTEGER: 2

.1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.3.10.13 = INTEGER: 2

I can also see that the two manually (via CLI) ports are untagged in VLAN 10:

# snmpwalk -On -v 2c -c public switch-edge-A1 .1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.4.10

.1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.4.10.11 = INTEGER: 2

.1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.4.10.13 = INTEGER: 2

Now I am trying to add ports to VLAN 10 via SNMP, following the MIB reference passage mentioned above, though I am getting following error:

# snmpset -v 2c -c private switch-edge-A1 .1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.3.10.14 i 4

Error in packet.

Reason: inconsistentValue (The set value is illegal or unsupported in some way)

Failed object: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.3.10.14

I thought that it might help if I first declare the port to be added to VLAN 10 (port 1/14) as untagged, though this gives me an error too.

# snmpset -v 2c -c private switch-edge-A1 .1.3.6.1.4.1.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.4.10 i 2

Error in packet.

Reason: noCreation (That table does not support row creation or that object can not ever be created)

Failed object: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.1991.1.1.3.2.6.1.4.10

Please note that deleting entries works, i.e. I can delete a port from VLAN 10 (e.g. 1/11) by doing an snmpset with value=3.

I also attach below the firmware version on the NetIron.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot in advance
