Interface information

Good day everyone,

Coming from another switching environment we use a command "show interface status" and it gave us the port description.  Now in the Brocade environment the equivalent command "show int brief" shoves the port description to the very end and only shows 8 characters.  Is there a way to either show the full port description or somehow make the output wider to show the rest of the description?

Re: Interface information

Hi

There is no way that I know of to extend the show interface bri output.

However

"show ethernet interface 1/1/1" will show the full port name.

So include all interfaces on the switch and then use some regex

e.g. on my 24 port ICX 6430-24 - 24 port switch.

Sswtich)#show interfaces ethernet 1/1/1 to 1/1/24 | include 1/1|Port

GigabitEthernet1/1/1 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/2 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/3 is up, line protocol is up

  Port name is CanonPrinter

GigabitEthernet1/1/4 is up, line protocol is up

  Port name is loungeSW

GigabitEthernet1/1/5 is up, line protocol is up

  Port name is NAS

GigabitEthernet1/1/6 is down, line protocol is down

  Port name is katrina-pc

GigabitEthernet1/1/7 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/8 is up, line protocol is up

  Port name is mas-win7

GigabitEthernet1/1/9 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/10 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/11 is down, line protocol is down

  Port name is 1234567890123456789012345678901234567890

GigabitEthernet1/1/12 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/13 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/14 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/15 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/16 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/17 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/18 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/19 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/20 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/21 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/22 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/23 is up, line protocol is up

  Port name is msserver

GigabitEthernet1/1/24 is down, line protocol is down

Sswtich(config-if-e1000-1/1/11)#

Thanks

Michael.

Re: Interface information

Also if the command is too long, then use an alias

Sswtich(config)#alias ports=sh int e 1/1/1 to 1/1/24 | i 1/1|Port

Sswtich(config)#ports

sh int e 1/1/1 to 1/1/24 | i 1/1|Port

GigabitEthernet1/1/1 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/2 is down, line protocol is down

GigabitEthernet1/1/3 is up, line protocol is up

  Port name is CanonPrinter

GigabitEthernet1/1/4 is up, line protocol is up

  Port name is loungeSW

GigabitEthernet1/1/5 is up, line protocol is up

  Port name is NAS

Thanks

Michael.

Re: Interface information

Thank you all for the information.  We will make do with the commands.

Re: Interface information

Good info.  Try the commands shown below to include vlan info in the output.  Not as user friendly as show int status, but at least provides the info.

To view multiple interfaces with portnames and vlan id

Displays interfaces on a single switch or 1st unit in a stack:  show int e 1/1/2 to 1/1/48 | inc 1/1|name|untagged

Displays interfaces on multiple units in a stack:  show int e 1/1/2 to 2/1/48 | inc 1/1|2/1|name|untagged

Re: Interface information

To search or view a specific wall jack configured with port-name on switch.  You will have to modify to fit your port naming convention.  This will allow you to find a port-name and view the running config for its interface.

show run | beg port-name N-CP---01101-003D1

show run | beg 1101-003
