ICX6450-24P Switch and "VLAN Trunking"

Hi, I am new in Brocade world and I am looking for some help with setting up VLAN Trunking/Tagging

We have situation here - SonicWall with 3 SonicPoints and 3 different VLANS - 50, 60, 70. (corp, guest, corp5N). SonicWall X4 interface with an IP ...40.1 (it carries 3 vlans under it) connected to 1/1/23 Port of Switch. Now I have to setup 3 Ports on ICX6450 for sonicpoints and make switch to accept Vlans from port #23 and push them to those 3 ports. Keep in mind that SonicWall is also responsible for DHCP.

I was able to accomplish this task with Cisco switch and some dummy Netgear, but no luck with Brocade. Any ideas ?

Thanks in an advance.

Re: ICX6450-24P Switch and "VLAN Trunking"

if SonicW supports  dynamic link agg, I would suggest LACP.

is your configuration looks like below?

trunk e 1/22 e 1/23 e 1/24
Wr mem
trunk deploy

tag e 1/22 command under vlans context.

what version of code are you using?

Re: ICX6450-24P Switch and "VLAN Trunking"

hm, am I  missing something ? How link aggregation can help me ? Also as I understand trunking (cisco) and tagging (non cisco) is 2 different things. I have to pass multiple vlan traffic from X4 interface of SonicWall to the POE switch.

Here is good example of what I have to do, the only difference is in switches. In this example he uses Cisco 2960G switch in my case it is ICX6450.

Thanks for you reply.

Re: ICX6450-24P Switch and "VLAN Trunking"

then you need to tag this interface of the switch under your vlans.
vlan X

tag e 1/23

vlan Y

tag e 1/23

vlan Z

tag e 1/23

hope this helps.

Re: ICX6450-24P Switch and "VLAN Trunking"

Say you sonicpoints are connect to ports 1/20, 1/21 and 1/22 - and as you stated port 1/23 connect to the sonicwall (I noted from the example the sonicpoint do not require a 802.1Q trunk {tagged})

Then you would have the below config.

icx6450#config term

icx6450(config)#vlan 50

icx6450(config-vlan50)#tag eth 1/23

icx6450(config-vlan50)#untag eth 1/20

icx6450(config)#vlan 60

icx6450(config-vlan60)#tag eth 1/23

icx6450(config-vlan60)#untag eth 1/21

icx6450(config)#vlan 70

icx6450(config-vlan70)#tag eth 1/23

icx6450(config-vlan70)#untag eth 1/22

Thanks

Michael.

Re: ICX6450-24P Switch and "VLAN Trunking"

Michael,

That is exactly how my configuration looks like. But I can't get IP's for the sonicpoint clients with this configuration. It doesn't work even with static ip. I see that all 3 sonic points were assigned IP's from DHCP.

Any thoughts ?

BTW if I disable VLAN on SonicWall it works fine.

Re: ICX6450-24P Switch and "VLAN Trunking"

Hi mate,

Are you running layer 2 or layer 3 code on your ICX (please post the  "show version" output).

I take it the access points get the IP from the Sonicwall via DHCP? if you assign a static IP to a client can it ping the access point's IP?

Thanks

Michael.

Re: ICX6450-24P Switch and "VLAN Trunking"

Hi,

Sorry I do not know the Sonicwall devices.  but lets see what we can do.

If the AP's are getting the correct IP address from DHCP on the sonicwall then please check to see if the sonicwall can provision these, you should see something like the below picture.

sonicwall-AP.png

Please confirm that the Status is saying "Operational".

Do you also have the X0 interface from the Sonicwall connect to the switch?

Thanks

Michael.
