I'm from the Cisco world, could someone explain what the purpose of a Virtual Ethernet is?

I'm from Cisco world, and we're about to get some Brocade equipment. Could someone explain to me the reason for using ve's when setting up routing? I've seeen some config files that have IP addresses on the normal Ethernet ports as well as on the Virtual Ethernets, I'm completely confused as to when to use which method.

Thanks!

Hi Lam373,

You use VE's when you want to route from VLAN to VLAN, or want to apply ACL's on a VLAN etc.  You can also assign IP address on an interface as well for normal routing.

Thanks
Michael
