Difference between MAC-based VLAN and Multi-device port authentication

Hi,

we have a lot of Brocade FSL edge switches and setup them with mac-based vlan (no dot1x, simply mac address auth.). Everything work's fine.

I did some tests with multi-device-port authentication and it works also well, with no changes in our radius setup.

After i read the documentation again and again, i can't find any basic difference between this two methods to authenticate clients.

Can somebody tell me the difference of this two authentication methods (maybe multi-device porth authentication has more features)?

Thanks in advance

Lars

Re: Difference between MAC-based VLAN and Multi-device port authentication

Hi Lars,

My understanding multi-device porth authentication only appliys to dot1X.  Without multi-device porth authentication the first device to auth is what will carry alll devices connecting to that port.

Hope that helps

Thanks

Michael.
