Can stacking be done on ICX-6610 switches hot or is a cold start required?

We have 2 independent ICX-6610 layer 2 switches that we now want to stack. Can I stack these hot? In other words, while the switches are operational, can I plug in the stacking cables and then run the secure setup? Or does the stacking process require a cold start to learn the stack topology?

Hi Roy,

Cannot be done Hot.   The stacking guide states the units shouldbe off, then connect the stacking cables, then power on.  Also the second device will need to have no config (Clean unit), so you will need to backup and rebuild your config after joing the stack on the second unit.

The first unit can have config and it will be converted to a stacking config.

If you ever need to add a 3rd unit, then that one can be added to the stack and only the new unit would need a reboot.

Thanks

Michael.
