10G server connection switch

Hi Guys,

One of our customer is planning for 10G connection for their server with minimum 8 SFP port switch and probably will require more SFP port, below is the switch model we propose  and appreciate if  anyone can have a look or suggest the correct switch model for the deployment. Thanks

Brocade ICX Series (Stackable)

  • 1 unit Brocade ICX 7250-24 switch
  • 8 unit 10GbE SFP

                   Optional

  • 1 unit Brocade ICX 7750-48F switch
  • 8 unit 10GbE SFP
  • 2 unit 1GbE SFP (Uplink)

Re: 10G server connection switch

If we are talking about 10G SFP with fibre, the

ICX 7750-48F

will be a better choice.

The 7250-24 is already limited to 8x10 Gig ports, so during initial deployment you have reached 100% capacity and may need to invest again. Also  you need to have a special 10 Gig upgrade license running, else you will be limited to 2x10G & 6 x1G.

The 7750-48F has 48 x 10 Gig ports and also additional 6 x 40 Gig QSFP ports. This gives you plenty of space to grow.

Do you need special routing code that may need to be licensed, too? Like ospf?

Re: 10G server connection switch

Hi cip_joerg,

Appreciate the information and feedback, customer is a hosting company with a 10G server connection roadmap.

Currently their planning is to install a couple of unit switch that supports 10G with minimum 8 server each rack at their DC. Beside the license for 10G upgrade what is other license does customer need to subscribe and switch model suitable for the deployment beside suggested in my previous post?. Thanks

Re: 10G server connection switch

Depends.

How do you want uplink the switch? Do you need / want to stack the units?
