BCM53125 jumbo frames

Hello, We developed a unmanaged switch using BCM53125 chipset. Everything works well, and the throughput matches a commercial gigabit Netgear switch, until we try to use jumbo frames. At that point, instead of increasing, the throughput drops. I guess some frames are lost. Is there a hardware setting for 53125 to enable the jumbo frames, or is something else that we are missing? Thank you, Sorin

Re: BCM53125 jumbo frames

Hi,

53125 jumbo frame feature requires be configured via register Page 40h: Jumbo Frame Control Register, please double check the datasheet.

And since 9K jumbo frame will be consumed up to 38 buffer memory pages, we recommend that no more than two port be jumbo enabled simultaneously for ensuring system performance. Please check datasheet Jumbo Frame Support section.

Thanks,

Ryan

Re: BCM53125 jumbo frames

Hi Ryan,

We were able to program 53125 using the SPI interface for "Jumbo Frames". Everything seems to work well until we power down the chip. At power up the register changes are lost. How can we save the registers to keep the values over power cycle?

Thank you,

Sorin
